How to Install Audio Mixer to Your Video
What is a Codec?
A codec is an electronic device - hardware, e.g. Polycom
V500, or a computer program - software, e.g. Polycom PVX
PC Software capable of coding/decoding or compressing
/decompressing audio/video signals from analog source
(e.g.camera, webcam, microphone, pick up from electric guitars) to digital
audio/video signals as these are transmitted through the Internet which are
then reconverted to analog by a receiving codec for replay on a video or PC
monitors and speakers, hence the name Co-Dec.
This is the core technology utilized in video conferencing so that when you see
or hear the word “codec”, it pertains to a video conferencing unit or software.
Analog audio/video signals - are varying energies from sounds and images
converted into electrical signals such as voltages or currents detected by
movements of a pointer on an electrical dial.
Digital audio/video signals - are numerical values or information of signals
coming from sounds and images in a form of a set of binary digits or numbers,
e.g.the number you see in a digital watch or as in digital recording on a computer.
The transmitting codec encodes or compresses digital audio/video signals as
these are transmitted through the Internet or the other way around, and
the receiving codec, decodes or decompresses the same signals in real time for
listening and viewing through audio/video devices such as televisions, home
theater systems, your laptop and desktop computers' display panels.
